Meet CENAPAC - DRCONGO

The National Center of Areas and Territories of Indigenous and Community Heritage (CENAPAC) was initiated by the Customary Chiefs and Community Leaders of Decentralized Territorial Entities bordering Protected Areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2017 in order to provide support and get actively involved in Conservation.

Objectives of CENAPAC - DRCONGO

At CENAPAC - DRCONGO, we are driven by an ultimate goal : that of creating a symbiosis between those who live as close as possible to National Reserves and Parks and our unique animals in the world, most of which are endemic to the DR Congo such as the Gorillas of the Eastern Plains (Gorilla beringei Graueri), Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), Okapis (Okapia johnstoni), Forest Elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis), Hippos (Hippopotamus amphibius), Great pangolin (Mamis gigantea), several families of cercopithecus including: Potto (pericticus potto), Hoest's cercopithecus (ercopithecus lhoesti), Owl-headed cercopithecus, (Cercopithecus hamlyni), Ascagne (Cercopithecus ascanius), Brazza's cercopithecus (neglected cercopithecus) Cercopithecus mitis) and Allen's Cercopithecus (Allenopithecus nigroviridis). Several varieties of Antelopes including: Blue duiker (Philantomba monticola), Yellow-backed duiker (Cephalophus sivicultor), Grimm's duiker (sylvicapra grimmia), Sitatuna, Marshbuck (Tragelaphus soekii), Guibharnaché (Tragelaoohusohus (Tragelapycus scriptus)), . The African buffalo (Syncerus caffer), as well as the red river pig (Potamochoerus porcus) and common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) and finally several birds (predators) Fish eagle (Haliaeetus vocifère), Crested eagle (Lophaetus occiptalis) Prigogine's owl, Turaco, (Musophaga specà, Gray parrot (Psittacus erithacus) and Congolese Peacock are also part of the biodiversity landscape. Our decision-making mechanism is based on scientific field studies as well as the evaluation of high quality data. go beyond to allow the construction of fruitful relationships between the riparian communities and the authorities in charge of Protected Areas to have a real impact in everything we do.

CENAPAC - DRCONGO operates over a vast Intervention Zone stretching from the Provinces of North Kivu to South Kivu and Maniema and acts in different areas such as nature conservation, community development, environmental education . We are carrying out several projects in order to improve the life of Communities with their nearby environment while preserving our unique ecosystem in the world.

The protection of the environment

Step by step

Our main objective is the preservation of our unique ecological heritage, whose biodiversity is the very essence of our future. We benefit from endemic species inseparable from the intrinsic basis of the identity of the Democratic Republic of Congo with the Gorilla, the Chimpanzee, the Bonobo, the Okapi, the Cogolese Peacock and the Pangolin to name a few.

Community Education

Strengthen our commitment

Never losing sight of the main mission of our organization, we are continually developing new activities to meet this challenge. We take Education and Awareness of Communities to respect and preserve ecosystems very seriously. Our team works every day to set up training and information on bio monitoring and animal family monitoring with the ultimate goal of supporting the authorities in charge of protected areas. The objective is to prevent any depredation and consequently poaching and trafficking in living species.
